We are braver and wiser because they existed,
those strong women and strong men…
We are who we are because they were who they were.
It’s wise to know where you come from, who called your name.
This site, dedicated to my brother Brian Pepperrell and our uncle Les Pepperrell, gathers together genealogical material from various sources, both private and public, related to all those who have or had the surname Pepperrell or Pepperell including any variants or deviants found. There are a number of spelling variations of the surname and the major ones of these will also be considered.

I guess the stories that most families have, rags to riches and back, etc., always stuck in our minds; particularly when told by Uncle Les, the font of all family knowledge at the time, that it was better to “Let sleeping dogs lie”.
Brian, my brother, took over the family research from Les and his research showed our great grandfather had moved to Surbiton, Surrey from Exeter, Devon. During his research he had contact with a number of other people with a Pepperell in their family tree. As a member of the Devon Family History Society, and actively helping with transcribing records, Brian made use of the Devon FHS Forum to ask and answer questions. When Brian died in June 2013 I decided to continue the research taking the family back to Uffculme, Devon in the early 16th century.
As I became more interested in what I was discovering, and after reading other Blogs, in particular the Research Like A Pro series from Family Locket, it became apparent that documenting evidence was the key to producing a strong family tree. Although I will still document other surnames connected to the my lineage, my main focus will be on documenting the Pepperrell / Pepperell surname.
